Flea & Tick

Keep Enjoying The Outdoors With Flea & Tick Products

Fleas & ticks can cause serious headaches for pet owners. These parasites survive by attaching to a host and drinking their blood. When they move between food sources, blood from one source can transmit to another. While some species may not react to a certain type of pathogen, when distributed to another species it may result in internal challenges that affect the health and wellbeing of the animal.

Estimates suggest that some 2,000 species and subspecies of fleas exist in the world. They are about the size of a pen tip and can leap up to 2 feet in a single jump, which makes them both difficult to catch and almost impossible to keep from infesting pets or the home. As a result of their small size, removing them with tweezers may not even be possible. Additionally, washing them without specially formulated flea soap not help at all. However, fleas are less likely to transfer pathogens, but their saliva can result in excessive scratching and hair loss.

Ticks are arachnids that crawl on the ground until they reach a source of food, or they hang from branches and leaves before dropping onto humans or animals. Once attached, ticks will draw enough blood to increase their body weight nearly 600 times. Similar to fleas, ticks also carry pathogens, but transmission may not occur if the body is removed within 36 hours, or a compound that kills or prevents the tick from attaching to the body is used.
