Our modern diet rarely provides the necessary plant sterols we may need. Sterol 117™ (Celt Naturals™) contains plant sterols with antioxidants and an essential fatty acid complex .
It is derived from non-genetically modified soy, pine park, fruit extracts, oil producing seeds and essential fatty acids extracted from North Sea fish.* Sterol 117 may support the dietary needs associated with:
Most seasonal allergy symptoms
Symptoms of joint pain and stiffness
T-cell proliferation
A balanced immune system and T 1/T2 helper cell ratio, associated with auto immune conditions and chronic viral infections
The maintenance of healthy cholesterol levels
Peak urinary flow and reduction of residual volume
Research by Karl Pegel (1), University of Natal Republic of South Africa, reports that a good quality diet should provide 200 to 300 mg of plant sterols per day. However, analysis of the modern diet shows that this healthy and necessary amount of plant sterols is not being provided.
In addition, our high fat diets tend to reduce the absorption of these beneficial plant constituents. Based on the far reaching benefits of plant sterols, scientists have concluded that supplementation is necessary to achieve the recommended daily intake.
Indications for Sterol 117 include:
Allergies: For functional relief of symptoms associated with allergic response.
Phytosterols suppress the release of Interleukin 4 (IL-4) so histamine is not released and allergy symptoms are controlled. Also, Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is normalized acting to protect lung tissue from further dysfunction.(2)
Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue: The production of IL-6, that causes inflammation and pain, may be inhibited with the use of phytosterols. Research shows that Enzogenol also reduces the free radicals that can contribute to the development of FM/CFS. (4)(5)
Immune System: Phytosterols can modulate an over producing and over performing immune system. This balancing effect may enhance the ability of the T-lymphocytes to release the factors that ultimately regulate cellular functions in the body. Studies have shown the potential to increase T cell proliferation on average by 58%. Increases in CD-4 lymphocyte counts have also been reported by some patients. (10)
Prostate: Urologists in Germany have been using phytosterols for over 20 years in the treatment of enlarged prostate conditions. In a recent United Kingdom study, with over 100 participants, 90% showed an average improvement in their prostate scores of 44% over a twelve-week period. (6)
Cholesterol: Changes in diet and exercise are important in lowering high cholesterol. However consumption of Sterol 117, fifteen minutes prior to a meal may help block the intestinal absorption of cholesterol. It may also encourage an increase in HDL levels. (7)(8)
In addition to the plant sterols (phytosterols), Sterol 117 has some additional ingredients, which enhance the overall benefit of the product:
Enzogenol™: is the antioxidant component of Sterol 117. It is in the highest tier of antioxidants available and contains the highest molecular weight oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) in the industry. This ingredient reduces free radical damage and is extracted without the use of chemical solvents. (9)
Cellasate™:is a proprietary blend of proteins, amino acids, and essential fatty acids (EFA) from fish, together with short chain peptides and proline rich polypeptides. This unique blend increases the bioavailability of the phytosterols and antioxidants. Cellasate™ also functions as a beneficial immune modulator.
