The meaning of pH is acid/alkaline balance. Most people are familiar with the pH of a swimming pool but are unaware of how important body pH is for our health. The bodys tissue and fluids (blood, lymph, interstitial, intracellular, spinal) all have ideal pH ranges.

The pH of the blood is held in a very narrow pH range, between 4.35 to 7.45 and is unable to be manipulated by dietary factors. However, pH of tissue, interstitial fluid and fluid inside the cell is affected by what we eat and drink as well as the result of cell metabolism.

It has been clinically established that the urines pH is an accurate reflection of the whole bodys pH. The state of the bodys acid/alkaline balance can be easily measured by testing the urine using hydrazine paper (also called pH paper). The urine pH is directly correlated to both tissue oxygen levels and soft tissue levels of minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and trace minerals. These minerals are the basic currency of exchange for literally every cell in the body.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average Americans tissue pH is about 5.5 (10 points below normal). For each 1/10 of a point that pH rises or falls, so does oxygen rise or fall ten-fold. Since the average American is about ten points below normal, this equates to an oxygen deficiency of a hundred-fold.

Conversely, as the alkaline reserve of soft tissue is replenished and brought into the normal range, tissue oxygen levels increase a hundred fold. What people notice first and foremost is increased energy and elevated mood.

The first morning urine is tested to determine whether the pH is acid or alkaline (the first morning urine is defined as the first urination after 5:00 a.m.). If the urine pH is acidic (pH below 6.4), this indicates the body is in a state of physiological distress due to a lack of sufficient minerals which are needed to adequately carry out thousands of basic cellular functions. Therefore, our immediate goal is to restore a consistently alkaline first morning urine pH (within the range of 6.4 to 7.0) by using fast-acting coral minerals which are highly ionized and easily absorbed.

Once the pH of the first morning urine stays consistently in the alkaline range for a period of at least two weeks. The next step is to begin testing the evening urine pH, best measured just before the dinner meal around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.

A urine pH over 7.4 is often an indication that the body is physiologically imbalanced. A urine pH of around 8.0 is an indication that the body has desperately recruited emergency supplies of ammonia from the liver as a last resort to maintain alkalinity.

This situation is usually due to a long term state of acidosis which has seriously depleted the bodys mineral reserves, especially calcium. Using coral minerals, it may take a few weeks to a few months to restore mineral balances. However, in this process, the body will first progress to an acid pH before it shows a positive progression toward the normal range.
